A Hero

قهرمان

DIRECTED BY: Asghar Farhadi

During his two-day leave from prison, Rahim tries hard to convince his creditor to drop the charges against him, hoping to find his way back to his son, his girlfriend, and his freedom.

It’s during this temporary release that his girlfriend comes up with a unique plan to get him out of prison for good. But alas, nothing in life is promised; and soon, after enduring an impeccable string of misfortunes that play out like a life-or-death game of snakes and ladders, fate pushes Rahim over the edge and past the point of no return.

Winner of the Grand Prix at Cannes and praised by audience and critics alike, this is a richly textured take on slander, social media, and societal collapse by the most prominent figure in Iranian cinema: Asghar Farhadi.

With such an accomplished director as Farhadi at the helm, the deceptively simple dilemma at the film’s core is ingrained with the director’s incomparable interpretations of tragedy and the slippery slopes of morality.

Asghar Farhadi

A true auteur of contemporary cinema, Asghar Farhadi is arguably the most recognized and celebrated Iranian filmmaker of our generation. Farhadi made history in 2012 when he became the first Iranian to win an Oscar for his film, A Separation. He later went on to win another Academy Award in 2017 for The Salesman. Farhadi has also been the recipient of countless other awards from the likes of Cannes, the Berlinale, Tribeca FF, and Chicago IFF; and when his spectacular films aren’t winning there, they’re blowing audiences away at many other festivals.
